Technorati ProfileMost consumers, when it come to upgrading there kitchen need to know a budget. Though with so many prices and options this an seem overwhelming. So I am going to make this is painless as possible. The first step you will want to conquer is what type of kitchen design.Kitchens are the center of the home where families gather and people entertain . With that in mind a few questions to ask yourself are:

  • What style do you like?
  • How long are you going to be living in the home?
  • Are you a growing family?
  • Will you be cooking and entertaining alot?
  • Will be updating your appliances?
  • Is your kitchens layout functional?

Cabinets can make up almost 50% of your budget.

Installation can make or break your budget. I seen people hire incompetent companies or individuals, only to find out later they could have saved money, stress and time by hiring a Licensed Contractor. Figure the install number to be 18%

Counter tops figure about 10% - 13% Natural stone or Quartz are my favorites. Counter tops are not the place to go cheap. Remember re-sale factor. Natural stone will make your kitchen elegant. Granite and Quartz has never been so affordable than in todays market.

Appliances are next you should spend a portion of 8% to 10 % of your budget. Also check to make sure they come with the Energy Star label. Most dishwashers also have the capacity to run now smaller loads without wasting water or energy.

Sinks, fixtures and lighting can run about 4% - 8% fixtures and lights can make the room. These small items can make or break a bath or a kitchen. Lights will show off your counter tops and cabinet lighting will illuminate the kitchen features.

All the numbers that add up of course do not equal 100% but there is room for every kind of budget. Also do not forget if any walls are being moved or plumbing and electrical these scopes will change your budget drastically. And remember always hire Licensed Contractors.
